How Sun Block works?
Basically, they protect the skin from the sun's harmful
Ultra-Violet B (UVB) rays. UVB rays are generally considered
to be the most dangerous for sunburns, prematurely aging
skin, and potential skin cancer.
What is
SPF?
All sunscreen lotions carry a
Sun Protection Factor (SPF rating). This indicates the level
of protection each product provides users from the UVB rays.
By using higher-rated products (carrying higher SPF
numbers), sunbathers and outdoor enthusiasts can safely
remain longer in the sun.
Choosing the right sun block?
There are numerous types of
sunscreens, SPF's, and ingredients. Choosing the right one
can do a great deal towards keeping you and your skin young
and healthy. You want to make sure you find a sunscreen that
is good for your skin. Depending on your skin type, and how
much sun exposure you are going to have, and your skin care
regime helps decide those factors.
The
first thing you need to know about sunscreen is what the
'SPF' and the number following it means. SPF means Sun
Protection Factor, the number following SPF means the
sunscreen will provide you that many times as long as the
minutes it would take your skin to redden in the sun without
any sun protection.
The second thing to know about using sunscreen is look for a
sun protection product that states on the label that it is
'broad spectrum'. While most any sunscreen will protect your
skin from burning and ultraviolet rays, only a sun
protection product that is 'broad spectrum' will protect you
against the deep, penetrating ultraviolet A rays, ( UVA ).
Price does not indicate the effectiveness of the sun
protection product. In general, pricier sunscreens have
additives that do not help in blocking harmful ultraviolet
rays. Look for a sunscreen with proven effective ingredients
like titanium and zinc oxide. |
